How Learning About Negative People Can Help Overcome Addiction

As part of their recovery, each person on the Narconon drug rehabilitation program completes a course of study to help them succeed in life after they go home. They learn how to overcome problems and challenges that in their earlier, addicted lives, would have sent them looking for drugs so they could escape upsets or failures. One of these study courses involves learning how to identify people who don’t have their best interests at heart. After this study, most Narconon students realize that association with these anti-social people was one of the factors that started them using drugs in the first place. As they learn how to deal with anti-social personalities, the ups and downs in their lives smooth out and it’s easier to stay sober. Here’s one student’s story of his completion of this course.

“The Ups and Downs course is very helpful. As a person who always wanted to know people’s personalities, I really enjoyed it thoroughly. It added another dimension and also another viewpoint to help me analyze people’s behavior. It also taught me to be aware of how others’ behavior can affect and influence me. And as a result, I am now a lot more aware of people’s personality characteristics. I’m now much more able to protect myself from their anti-social behavior. It was an enjoyable study.

“Then came the practical work, which helped me detect these characteristics in the people who are in my life and handle them based on these results. The help of the course supervisors was crucial during this part of the course. I made them aware that I am thankful and grateful for everything that they did for me and that I will pay them back by being the man they want me to be and the man I also want to be. I also made a plan to distance myself from people who are a risk to me. I want to thank all the staff at Narconon Balkan for their guidance, support, advice and understanding during this course.”
