Emergency Room Visits due to Synthetic Drugs
Spice/ Synthetic Cannabinoids
According to the Drug Awareness Warning Network, Spice sends far more young people to emergency rooms than other drugs. In 2010, thirty-three of all ER visits for those aged 12 to 17 were due to Spice abuse. In the age groups 18 to 20 and 21 to 24, the ratio was more than one out of six.
Between 2010 and 2011, ER visits from this cause increased 2.5 times to 28,531.
In 2012, there were more than 2,500 calls to poison control centres to get help for problems with bath salts use.
As these drugs become more popular, unfortunately, more ER visits and poisonings are sure to occur.
