Achieving Relief from Guilt

As each person on the Narconon drug rehabilitation program studies the life skills they are going to need to stay sober, they learn how to free themselves from guilt over the harm they have done in the past. They also learn how they lost their personal integrity and how they can restore it. As they study these skills, they make a list of the harmful things they have done to themselves and others. At the end of this challenging process, there is relief and freedom, as this Narconon student describes.

I’ve just finished writing the harmful actions that I’ve done in all the different areas of my life. In the beginning, it was a little difficult to write them down. At that time, I didn’t know that this was going to be a great thing to do. I was just thinking that I had to do it and it’s something that others before me have done. What I discovered is that this was a very important thing for me to do for myself. I became honest with myself for the first time. After that, I could be honest with others because if I am not honest with myself, I can’t be honest with anyone.

During this process, I went through a lot of painful feelings like I’d felt when I was originally committing that harmful action. When everything was finished, I wrote with honesty and I didn’t hide anything from anybody. That was the most beautiful feeling for me. I felt relief from something bad that I was holding deep inside.

As a result, I feel free from all those bad feelings I had inside. I now feel complete and honest with myself. And this is thanks to the dedication of my instructor because he helped me through this process. I now feel like a different person, honest in everything. I know I will continue like this in my new life.
